Understanding CLB Language Scores
The Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) is the national standard used by Canadian immigration authorities to measure language proficiency in English or French. Immigration programs such as Express Entry, the Federal Skilled Worker Program, and many Provincial Nominee Programs use CLB levels to assess an applicant’s communication ability.
Applicants must submit results from approved language tests such as IELTS, CELPIP, TEF Canada, or PTE Core. These test scores are converted into CLB levels to determine eligibility and immigration points.
Why CLB Scores Matter
Language ability is one of the most important factors in Canada's immigration system. Higher CLB scores can significantly increase an applicant’s Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score and improve their chances of receiving an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residence.
